WorldSkills International (WSI) is a not for profit association which operates worldwide and is politically and denominationally neutral. The mission of WSI is to promote, through the cooperative actions of its members, a worldwide awareness of the essential contribution that skills and high standards of competence make to the achievement of economic success and individual fulfillment.

WSI is open to agencies or bodies which have a responsibility for promoting vocational education and training in their respective countries/regions. The current number of members is 52. Finland joined WSI in 1988.

The main activity of WSI is the WorldSkills Competition (WSC), the biggest skills competition in the world. It is a biennal international skills event where young professionals from all WSI member countries compete during four days for the world championship in over 45 skills categories. The very first competition was held in Portugal in 1950. Finland participated for the first time in 1989.

Finland had a great honor to host the WorldSkills competition in 2005 in Helsinki. The competition was a great success and it attracted nearly 120 000 visitors.

The next competition will be held in London in 20110.
